《Human* Being: On Otherkin Identity and Digital Community》（《Human* Being：論 Otherkin 身份與數字社羣》）是 Devin Proctor 基於十餘年田野調查寫成的一部 Otherkin 數字民族誌。作者通過訪談和網絡社羣觀察，討論 awakening（覺醒）、phantom shifts（幻肢體驗）、kintype（認同物種）、virtual avatars（虛擬化身）、gatekeeping（身份把關）等 Otherkin 社羣中的核心現象，以及 Facebook、Tumblr、Discord、TikTok 等不同網絡平臺如何影響 Otherkin 身份的形成、表達和社羣規範。

本書並不試圖判斷 Otherkin 對自身身份的 spiritual explanations（靈性解釋）或 psychological explanations（心理解釋）是否正確，而是將 nonhuman self（非人自我）作爲一種實際存在的主觀經驗加以研究：一個生物學上屬於人類的人，爲什麼會持續體驗到非人的自我或身體感？他們如何解釋這種經驗，如何判斷一個 kintype 是否可信，又如何形成“什麼算 Otherkin”的社羣邊界？

除了討論個體身份經驗，本書也記錄了 Otherkin 社羣從早期郵件列表、論壇到現代社交媒體的發展過程，因此同時可以作爲一部 Otherkin 網絡社羣史來閱讀。它尤其關注網絡媒介、科學話語、靈性解釋與社羣內部身份規範之間的關係，以及這些因素如何共同塑造今天的 Otherkin 文化。

等了幾星期的新書，今日公開發行了。

剛剛瀏覽了一下，發現裏面包含不少有啓發性的觀點。

比如：

We are here now back at my initial claim: Otherkinity begins as an experience of Being, prompting recognition of other-than-human internality that can lead to identifying one’s Self as Otherkin. It is ontology that initiates epistemology. The first major point here, which should be clear by now, having scaffolded back up to it, is that fundamentally the nature of Otherkinity is the experience of Being other-than-human in the first place, whether or not a person ends up identifying as such. It is not an over-interest in fantasy media, nor a religious conviction, nor a disorder, nor a particular way of viewing the universe. It is foundationally a lived reality. The second aspect I am hoping to highlight is Otherkinity’s processual nature. It is a process of awakening, self-identifying, researching, specifying, reawakening, reidentifying, re-researching, etc. Indeed, some of my own interlocutors have shifted specifics about their own identity as my fieldwork went on and they got closer to pinpointing their exact kintypes.

我希望強調的第二個方面，是 Otherkinity 所具有的過程性。它是一個不斷經歷覺醒、自我認同、研究、細化確認、再次覺醒、重新認同、重新研究等等的過程。事實上，在我的田野調查持續進行的過程中，一些與我交流的研究參與者也調整過自身身份認同的具體內容；隨着他們越來越接近準確確定自己的具體 kintype，他們對自身身份的界定也隨之發生了變化。

我記得自己以前也表達過這種“體驗”在先，“定義”在後的觀點。他的論述讓我對這個觀點的理解更清晰了。

我之後會花時間讀一下這本書，可能會做一些翻譯。
